In Ukrainian law, there is no general 'residence' status. There is residence with a ground — temporary or permanent — and the ground is part of the document. Lose the ground, and the residence terminates with it.
Temporary vs permanent
Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) is tied to an underlying ground and renewed periodically. Permanent Residence (PR) has stricter qualifying conditions and is not tied to a single ground.
What it grants
Lawful presence in Ukraine for the duration recorded on the card. Access to address registration, taxpayer identification, banking, healthcare under residence rules.
What it does not grant
Citizenship — that is a separate, much later process. Schengen access — Ukraine is not in the Schengen area. Automatic permanent residence — TRP must be qualified into PR through specific eligibility paths.
Card mechanics
Biometric, plastic card with chip. Issued in 10–15 working days after biometric capture. Carries an expiry date matching the underlying ground.
